Shift Operations Technician - Energy from Waste

Circa £53,000 bonus overtime benefits

Bicester, Oxfordshire

SCINERGY Recruitment are looking for a Shift Operations Technician / Shift Technician / Shift Operator to join an EFW power station near Bicester, Oxfordshire.

Working as part of the shift operations team, you will be responsible for starting, stopping and monitoring the plant through the Distributed Control System (DCS), ensuring it operates safely, efficiently and in line with its operational and environmental targets.

Key responsibilities

  • Start, stop and monitor boilers, steam turbines, pumps, water treatment plant and heat exchangers via the DCS
  • Carry out routine plant inspections and make operational adjustments to maintain safe and efficient performance
  • Perform basic first-line maintenance activities and report defects to the Shift Team Leader
  • Support planned shutdowns, start-ups and maintenance activities, helping to minimise plant downtime
  • Monitor the site Continuous Emissions Monitoring System (CEMS) and respond appropriately to changing plant conditions
  • Maintain accurate shift logs, operational records and handover information
  • Ensure all duties are carried out in accordance with site procedures and the highest standards of health, safety and environmental compliance

Skills and experience

To be considered for this position, you should have:

  • Operations experience gained within a heavy process environment involving the generation of high-pressure steam, such as power generation, Energy from Waste, CHP, chemical processing or refining
  • Merchant Navy and Royal Navy Engineers with significant watchkeeping experience will also be considered
  • A relevant engineering qualification, such as an apprenticeship, NVQ, City & Guilds, ONC or HNC
  • A good understanding of safe systems of work and health, safety and environmental procedures
  • Strong communication, teamwork and problem-solving skills
  • A flexible approach and willingness to work a 12-hour shift pattern covering days and nights
